Suyash and Yanbo present their work at EuroSys 2024 in Athens!

Suyash and Yanbo participated in Eurosys 2024 to present their research.

Suyash presented Puddles which reimagines the programming interface for persistent memory software. Unlike the traditional approach that uses “pools” and “fat pointers” to manage persistent memory and requires application-specific crash recovery, Puddles introduces relocatable memory regions—or “puddles”—with native-pointer support and implements system-supported recovery.

Yanbo presented his work from Alibaba: CSAL, a cloud storage acceleration layer for cloud local disks. He explored the possibility of leveraging high-capacity QLC SSDs for cloud local disks. Yet, the three preliminary unsuccessful attempts indicate that QLC SSDs cannot simply work as a drop-in replacement due to two levels of write amplification. CSAL aims to resolve these challenges by introducing a log-structured write cache with fine-grained page management. Now, CSAL is open-sourced and has been upstreamed into SPDK.
